WHO WE ARE

"Civilians supporting the military"
History
The Community Council concept originated with Col Tom Lawson.
The Council was modelled on, and mentored by,
the Selfridge Base Community Council in Detroit.
The Commanding Officers, Honorary Colonels and Senate
members from HMCS Prevost, 1st Hussars, The Elgins,
4th Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment and 22nd
(London) Service Battalion with input from the Chief
of Staff, 31 Brigade Headquarters, initiated the
Garrison Community Council in 2000.
The Council is centered on London and includes
Sarnia, St. Thomas and Stratford.
The Council consists
of influential business, professional and community leaders with a minority of a few select military members.
Objectives
The Council promotes communication
and interface between the Garrison and
the Community in Elgin, Middlesex, Perth
and Lambton Counties. The rôle of the
Garrison within the community, the
assistance that the Garrison can offer
the Community and methods of strengthening
the Garrison-Community interaction fall
within the ambit of the Garrison Community
Council.
The Council has initiated a Starbase program, the first in Canada, at London.
